Great news just in from the Council press office is notification of the Annual Hedgelaying Competition.

Annual Hedgelaying CompetitionYou might remember the coverage we gave to the event last year with a follow up article from hedgelaying extraordinaire, Os Hoskyns of Hobbit House.

This will be the 16th competition on the Wight and this year takes place next to the Fighting Cocks pub at Hale Common, near Arreton.

If you want to go along to see the progression of the hedges being laid, cutting starts at 10am and must be completed by 3pm with prizes being presented at approximately 3.30pm.

The event is being organised by the Isle of Wight Hedgerow Group and is supported by the Isle of Wight Council.

We also hear that this year a new prize for the best laid hedge using only hand tools, is being sponsored by W Hurst & Sons Ltd.

If you want any more info on the event, get in touch with Matthew Chatfield on 823893 or email him matthew(dot)chatfield(at)iow(dot)gov(dot)uk.
