A Tribute To Bill Evans

Friday, 21st December, 2007 at 1:29 pm, Isle of Wight

11, January 2008
8:00 pm

The first Jazz Café of the New Year at Quay Arts will feature top Island jazz exponents, the Phoenix Jazz Ensemble.

A Tribute To Bill EvansThey will be presenting ‘A Tribute to Bill Evans’, consisting of numbers composed by or associated with one of the most famous jazz pianists of the 20th century, supported by original compositions from the pen of their pianist/composer Peter Trueman and interwoven with biographical narrative.

The Phoenix Jazz Ensemble consists of superb jazz vocalist Nette Robinson, hard-driving tenor saxophonist Roger ‘Relentless’ Mason and the swinging rhythm section of pianist Peter Trueman, bass player Mike Whitehead and drummer Bill Wills.

They are taking this opportunity to acknowledge the seminal influence of Bill Evans, not only upon themselves but on a great many of the world’s jazz musicians.

This concert underlines a fact that seems to have been overlooked of late, that the Island has, and always will, possess more than the average share of very competent jazz musicians.

‘A Tribute to Bill Evans’ is guaranteed to appeal to all jazz fans and it should not be missed.
