Developed by the Isle of Wight Beacon and Jigsaw Sales and Marketing Associates this is the first fully comprehensive Business Expo taking place on the Island.
This Expo is for anyone and everyone in business.

Live Cooking
Having been caught up chatting to so many lovely people from the myriad of companies at the exhibition, I only managed to catch one of Cyrus Todiwala (MBE)’s cooking demonstrations, in which he cooked the most wonderful pork vindaloo, a vegetarian kale and beetroot dish, as well as a lobster dish made from lobster caught by a Yarmouth-based fisherman called Jamie (more on him later).
Cyrus’ manner and stage presence was very enthusiastic – anyone who walked past the cooking stage ended up being suckered in by his humour and character.

It would not be fair not to mention the wonderful guys from Ventnor Brewery who were at the Expo.
A very special mention to Irwin who took a good half an hour of his time to explain the brewing process to us, as well as get us to sample the different ales hailing from Ventnor, with some ingredients grown and harvested at the Botanic Gardens!

Little Goddess Foods
The first food stop I encountered on my venture at the Expo was Little Goddess Foods (Tel: 07968472608 – Marianne Jones). 
If you’ve been to any of the Spar shops on the Island, you will know who this company is.
They have the most gorgeous selection of traditional cakes and pastries, and the best part is that they only use fructose (fruit sugar) in their cakes, which means that they’re suitable for diabetics!

After my wonderfully relaxing massage, I headed to the next stand, which was the second recruitment company there called WP Recruitment, again based in Newport, who were able to offer local businesses a variety of different types of workers – from administrators to hotel staff and catering help.

As a relative newbie to the Island, I was hugely excited and a little nervous at the prospect of covering the first day of the well-renowned Island Expo at the Cowes Yacht Haven, but, despite a tiny bit of initial nerves, the wonderful smells of cooking and spices coming from the events centre were not going to deter me.

As soon as we were through the door, we were met by a lovely lady from Smart Training & Recruitment – a Newport-based company that offers apprenticeships and training in hospitality and catering, business administration, customer service and retail industries.

If you’re planning to pop along to Cowes Yacht Haven either tomorrow or Thursday for the Island Expo Catering and Hospitality Exhibition, you might want to schedule your visit to tie in with some of the many food demonstrations taking place at the ‘Taste’ kitchen.
Being the passionate foodies that they are, Taste of the Wight have managed to wheel in a number of top chefs from around the Wight, as well as celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala.
We’re particularly looking forward to sampling the delights of Luke Holder from The Lakeside and Charlie Bartlett from The Garlic Farm as we haven’t tried their food yet.

Celebrity Chef, Cyrus Todiwala Joins Lineup at Island Expo

Talking of Expos, this week (Wed/Thurs) sees the return of the excellent Island Expo Catering and Hospitality Exhibition to Cowes Yacht Haven.
This event is an absolute _must_ for anyone, whether you’re in the industry or not.
Our good friends over at Taste of the Wight will once again be hosting their ‘taste kitchen’ which features a number of live demos from some of our favourite Island chefs.
This year however, Taste have a real treat in store for you as celebrity chef, Cyrus Todiwala, will be gracing the Taste kitchen and showing us how to create fabulous Indian cuisine using the best of Island produce.

Island Expo 09 Catering And Hospitality Exhibition

It seems like only yesterday that we were wandering around Cowes Yacht Haven taking in the delights that the Island has to offer as far as catering and hospitality go.
But it was in fact almost a year ago now and that means that it’s almost time for the next Island Expo Catering And Hospitality Exhibition.
The aim of the Island Expo 09 is to link up Island Producers, Hoteliers, Restaurateurs and well, anyone working in the catering and hospitality industry.
The next event takes place over Thursday 25 and 26 February 2009, and Cowes Yacht Haven will once again provide hosting facilities.

Isle of Wight Festival: Platform One Bandstand: Thursday

If you’re going to be camping at the festival tomorrow night, you’ll be able to enjoy an evening of music on the Platform One bandstand.
You’ll find the bandstand in the Strawberry Fields and action kicks off at 6pm going up til midnight.
We’re pleased to see that The Shanklin Freak Show are in the lineup, as well as Lucky Elephant who we saw and really liked, at the Big Green Picnic.

Island Expo: Last Day To Catch The Action

Yesterday saw the start of the Island Expo, the catering and hospitality exhibition taking places at Haven Events Centre, Cowes Yacht Haven.
Our favourite photographer Julian Winslow was shooting at the event and sent through this wonderful shot of Jose Graziosi from The George in Yarmouth, demonstrating his culinary skills to a captive audience.
