MoneyA group that supports a children’s respite care centre in Newport run by the Isle of Wight Council is benefiting by almost £11,000 thanks to the efforts of a group of women led by Islander Nicky Wooldridge.

Nicky and her friends are supporters of the Friends of Beaulieu House and collected just over £10,500 in sponsorship for walking between Sandown’s Ferncliff Gardens and Shanklin’s Rylstone Gardens in June this year. It was part of an annual event called Walk 4 Beaulieu House.

Walk and Barbeque
As part of the day, she was joined on the walk by many supporters, including Mark King from Level 42, who is a patron of the Friends of Beaulieu House and who walked along the revetment between Sandown and Shanklin and up through Shanklin Chine. Ann Springman from the Chine allowed the walkers free entry to the attraction during the walk. The evening culminated with entertainment and a large barbeque provided by Tony and Lin Buckett.

Nicky will now present the cheque to the Friends of Beaulieu House at Rylstone Gardens at 11’30am on Wednesday 26 October. She will be joined by Tony and Lin Buckett and Ann Springman in handing over the money.

A very worthy cause
Councillor Dawn Cousins, Isle of Wight Council’s cabinet member responsible for children’s services, said “I want to publicly thank Nicky and her supporters for raising such an incredible amount of money for what is a very worthy cause.

“Beaulieu House provides a very important service for children who have learning difficulties and a range of often complex health needs.

“I understand the Friends of Beaulieu House have earmarked the money for a very special project, and will be revealing the details in the near future.”

Nicky plans to again take part in the annual Walk 4 Beaulieu House on 16 June next year.
