Here’s Baxter’s description around his photo …

The ‘Round the Island’ race takes place each June and involves over 1,500 boats.

This was taken from Hurst Castle at just after 0600 as the bulk of the yachts were making their way down the Solent. I prefer to walk out there early to get the best of the light on the first boats and then leave once it has deteriorated getting some quizzical looks from those still making their way out at what is, for them, still an early start!

Camera Info: Nikon D700 with 70-200 MkII lens and 1.7x teleconverter, 340mm. 1/1250 sec, f/16. This is straight image, no filters and the only post processing in Capture One Pro was a small amount of clarity.
