Take Part In The Great Isle of Wight Skateboard Challenge 2011

Thanks to Sherie for sending through details of this fantastic charity event raising money for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Ed

Skating teamEver thought about doing something a little out of the ordinary, a little wacky and more than a little unorthodox? Well, once again the fantastic team of Long Boarders have decided to skate the coastal paths of the Isle of Wight, on 24th and 25th September.

This event is in its second year and we would like more people to take part this year, so we’ve thrown open the doors to everyone and to all ages.

The Isle of Wight Skate 2 team would like to stress that this event is not a race but a collection of individuals who enjoy skating and raising money for charity.

Clockwise route around the Island
The event encompasses a clockwise route around the island’s coastal roads taking in some of the most scenic parts of the island and also some of its more excellent skating roads.

The team raised just short of a thousand pounds last year and would love to smash that total this year!

Fancy taking part?
The event starts on the Saturday morning but accommodation will be available on the Friday night. Please contact HIOWAA on 02380 333377 for details.

The total distance is 67 miles split over two days, and this should allow enough time to spend looking around the island, or to take the journey at a more leisurely pace!

A BBQ dinner will be available both nights which is included in the entry fee, however both camp sites are close to pubs and restaurants should you wish to sample the local cuisine or beer (travel to and from the island has been subsidised very kindly by Red Funnel).

Support vehicles lighten the load
During your time on the island there will be support vehicles to pick you up or help you out, so that each skater doesn’t have to carry their tents etc, but just the things required for the day.

The entry fee for this year is £40.00, which includes camping, food, the support vehicle and a donation to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Telephone 02380 333377 for an entry form or enter online. Please note, you will not be registered for the event until full payment has been received.

If skating is not for you, but you would like to support the event, please sponsor them on their Just Giving page.
