Whippingham: Finalists In Village of the Year Competition

Well done to Whippingham who have become finalists in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Village of the Year Competition.

Almshouses Whippingham, Isle of WightWhippingham are the only Island village out of the exclusive four villages across the whole of the region to be shortlisted by judges.

Back in April this year applications were opened enabling the villages to enter the competition run by the Hampshire Association of Local Councils, sponsored by Fullers.

Judging criteria
Judging of the villages has been going on since June where during a two hour visit where they considered if they are, “Well balanced, pro-active, caring village communities which, irrespective of size, are making the best of local opportunities in order to enhance and sustain quality of life for all inhabitants. Credit will be given for links between community and the local pub, and extra credit given for entries into ‘The Small Idea’.

The Winners are expected to be announced in August.

Awards event
If Whippingham are lucky enough to get through, representative of the village will be asked along to a presentation event in September in North Waltham to receive the awards.
