We’ve just heard that the request for a full Judicial Review in to the closing of Island libraries will be heard, in the High Court, on 26th July.

Judge in WigThis Leave Hearing (the legal term for granting permission), is the next required stage of the process, that if completed, will see the inner processes and workings of the Isle of Wight council exposed in connection to their decision to close a number of the Island’s libraries.

On the 26th, the High Court judge will hear evidence on both sides and decide if a full Judicial Review into the matter should be heard.

Campaigners trying to save the libraries in Brent and Gloucestershire have already gone through this process, passing on to the Judicial Review. Speaking to Dave Quigley, he told VB, “all three cases are very similar,” so it is expected to move to the next stage.

Council silent on court costs
VentnorBlog asked the IW council six days ago how much they had budgeted to fight the action. They still haven’t replied.

I wonder why the Council have not revealed the legal costs? Are they afraid of the embarassment it may cause if the amount is enough to simply keep the libraries open?

    Offensive comment?

Should the High Court find that IWC acted incorrectly in the scale and manner of its library closure plan, is the IWC ‘guilty’ of mis-using public monies in defending what has always been a questionable decision plus other costs incurred through premature closure of buildings etc?
Now how does one contact the District Auditor?

    Offensive comment?
