Stop The Cuts Heal The Island Rally (photos)

There was a smaller gathering than on previous rallies, but Saturday morning saw many come out to Newport to support the campaign against huge public service cuts taking place across the Island.

Geoff MasonSpeeches were made by unions, staff, campaigners and other groups to rally support from Island residents who will be affected by the planned public service cuts, some of which are already having an impact on the Island.

With many people concerned for their positions, particularly in the IW NHS who stated in March that “the equivalent of between 150 and 170 posts a year are set to go over the next four years as health chiefs fight to bring down costs”, it was not surprising to see smaller numbers at the rally.

The organisers remained defiant however, that they will continue to battle for alternatives to the proposed public spending cuts, with more rallies and awareness-raising planned in the next few months.
