Poly Styrene, Punk Legend R.I.P.

Punk legend, Poly Styrene, joins the list of talented beings taken from this world far too young.

Only recently relaunching her music career, we were saddened to hear that Marianne Elliott-Said (aka Poly Styrene) lost her battle to cancer yesterday.

Those of a certain age will remember that Marianne founded punk-band X-Ray Spex back in 1976. The band had several releases, but were probably most well known for The Day The World Turned Day-Glo (one of our favourites of the era).

As we mentioned last year on Twitter and Facebook, Poly Styrene released Black Christmas, a collaboration with her daughter, Celeste in November 2010.

This was followed by the single, Virtual Boyfriend, released in March, from her latest album, Generation Indigo which has received critical acclaim with one score of 10 out of 10.

Poly Styrene inspired many over the years and will be sorely missed.

Check out interview with John Robb below where Poly Styrene talks about her new album, Generation Indigo.
