Council Responds On Libraries Legal Action

VentnorBlog asked the Isle of Wight council for their reaction to the legal challenge that floated earlier this week accusing the council’s action on the Libraries were “unlawful”.

IW Council chief executive Steve Beynon, said: “The council believes its decision meets its statutory duty to provide a comprehensive and efficient library service. Any libraries run by town and parish councils or community groups will enhance the council’s library provision above the statutory requirements.

“In reaching its decision on the future of the library service, the council took into account the needs of the local community.”
