Carol Jones, New Town Councillor For Ventnor East

News reaches us that following the resignation of Chris Welsford from the Ventnor Town Council (VTC) at the end of last year, his seat on the council has now been filled.

Ventnor resident Carol Jones was informed yesterday by officials at County Hall, that she’d won the seat uncontested.

As an election wasn’t necessary, we missed out on any election leaflet that so often can give you a feel for the candidate, so we asked Carol if for the benefit of those she’ll be representing on the VTC, she’d like to give us a brief bio.

I moved to Ventnor 16 years ago, I have always loved the place since my childhood days (having made about 18 visits here all in all,) Ventnor has been good to me and I would like to think I can now give something back.

This place really feels more like home to me than Liverpool ever did.

Shortly after landing, I began working in our local youth club in Ventnor (firstly as a volunteer,) and I also did some work with the Princes Trust.

I continued as a youth worker for several years, got qualified and then underwent a slight career change. For the last 9 years I have been a drug worker employed by Cranstoun in Ryde (which involves me working with people who are dependent on substances such as heroin.)

I have made a sincere promise to all of those who encouraged me to apply for the vacancy that I will do my best to represent the opinions of my local community.

Carol’s first VTC meeting will be next Monday (28th February) when the 2011 precept will be decided.

We wish Carol the best of luck on the town council.
