A few VB readers have pointed us in the direction of YouTube this week.

The video in question is a protest song by Michael Watson, one of the campaigners against the closure of Ventnor Library.

As you’ll see and hear below, he sings about the long walk to Newport should Ventnor library close.

There are a couple of versions of the video on YouTube, the one embedded here was filmed by Ventnor-based, Utility Films.

At County Hall gathered outside hearing Michael’s voice ring out was a truly moving moment. Felt the link with ordinary folks of the past who used their voices, their words, their music to protest. Glorious.

He was stood next to me with his son, and I had no idea that he was about to come to the fore and entertain us with such a rousing performance. A great, local protest song, movingly sung “from the heart!” Congatulations, Michael – Excellent!
