January’s Cabinet Meeting Cancelled

The Isle of Wight council has just announced that the Cabinet meeting planned for Monday, 24 January 2011 has been cancelled.

January's Cabinet Meeting CancelledInstead, they’ve decided to push three of the items over to the February Cabinet meeting and deal with one of the other items under delegated decision (details below).

Items missed from last meeting
What’s surprising about this is that the last Cabinet meeting – where all of the cuts to front-line services were officially discussed (read the live VB coverage) – was of such marathon length, that quite a few of the monthly reports from the Cabinet members and items on the agenda weren’t discussed, as it finished at 10:30pm.

With the January meeting now cancelled, it’s not clear when these normally-monthly reports will be delivered in public.

Delegated decision
The item from the now-cancelled Cabinet meeting that’s now being decided under delegated decision is the Island Plan Core Strategy Submission.

When delegated decisions are made, councillors who aren’t in the Cabinet – be they Conservatives or opposition – don’t have a public opportunity to question the Cabinet members or council leader who they came to their decision.
