Island Paramedic Struck Off Register

A paramedic who worked for the Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust, will no longer be able to practise after being struck off the Health Professions Council register.

Island Paramedic Struck Off RegisterThe Health Professions Council (HPC) heard that in October 2009, Wayne Harriman had made a patient walk up steep stairs to reach an ambulance waiting nearby.

Sadly the patient, who was seriously ill diabetic, collapsed and suffered a fatal heart attack.

The patient had only been discharged from hospital the previous day and HPC say Harriman should have checked he was well enough to walk.

Colin Allies who was on the panel said, “This was an extremely serious case.

Mr Harriman knew he should have undertaken a proper assessment in circumstances such as this and he put the patient’s safety and welfare at risk by requiring or expecting the patient to walk.”
