Thanks very much to Chris Cowley who let us know about a fire that occurred after the Alum Bay fireworks display ended this evening.
He wrote that ten minutes after the show, “an already exploded fireworks ember smoldering in the field next to the display catches fire about 2150.”
Then the whole field went up in flames, “visible from all around.” Chris said that eight fire units attended the blaze.
Anyone else see anything?
UPDATE: 6.Aug.10 Michelle Kennedy was at the event too and grabbed some dramatic images. Here’s one of them …

I’m interested in this now…Wonder what the CP will have to say about it tomorrow morning and whether traffic was halted coming out of the car park as it’s usually gridlocked there!

I was up on Heddon Warren watching and it was quite spectacular how fast and quick it took hold. Wish I had my camera as it was sight.
It was just before the big finale of the firework when it looks like an ember took hold and then got fanned by the wind.
All we saw was a wall of flames moving so fast towards the Warren Bay Tea Rooms farm. All credit to the fire service who were chasing the fire and were actually in the middle of the flames trying to put it out!
They managed to put it out but not until most of the crop had gone up but they certainly saved the farmhouse and probably stopped it getting onto the High Down and beyond.
Well Done.

Just a small note, the guys in the middle of the fire beating it out because the fire service did not have long enough hoses to put water on the fire were actually the pyrotechnicians who had fired the display and not the fire service.

Erika – not sure what your source was but to put the record straight it was in fact two firemen initially who were in the field beating the flames and then they were joined by another whilst another two set up the hoses.
They were then helped by two pyro guys once their display had finished.
