Island Youngsters Benefit From Government Funding

If you’ve heard of the Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF) and ever wondered whether any Island youngsters benefit from this government funding, read on and you’ll soon find out.

Island Youngsters Benefit From Government FundingSince April, we’re told a whopping £85,000 has been awarded to various youth initiatives around the Island.

Where’s the cash splashed?
Twenty two of our best young athletes attending the Island Games had the benefit of their travel being paid for by the scheme this year.

Cowes Town Council received a very healthy £10,000 towards the building of a new basketball court and the IW Scout Group received funds towards travel costs, so they could attend the International Scout Jamboree.

Young offenders benefited from a £1,150 grant towards staging a fashion show and £1,680 went towards a circus skills course being held at Ryde Youth Centre.

Unfortunately, it looks like it’s the end of the road for the YOF, as the council tell us that applications are closed.

Capital funds still available
However, if you need a grant for buildings or structures, the Youth Capital Fund (YCF) is still accepting applications. To find out more about the YOF check out the council’s website.
