Residents of Pier Street in Ventnor were woken by a loud bang this morning when a transit van crashed through the shop front of Suzes Room at 7.45am.
The vintage shop, which recently changed hands and re-opened last week, is one of, if not the most characterful shop fronts in the town, with until this morning, its original Victorian curved glass windows in tact.
We understand that the driver of the transit van lost control of the vehicle whilst parking. The van mounted the pavement and hit the right hand side shop window, taking out not only the glass and brick shop front but also the vintage goods on display.

I am trying to imagine a scenario in which a van travelling with enough momentum to mount the kerb manages to swing into Suzes Room at such an angle as to actually penetrate the front of the shop!!!

Likewise. It couldn’t be an estate agent or bank, though, could it? :-(

Good job no one was walking past at the time.

The window is safely boarded up now but it makes the shopfront look pretty awful. The lovely convex glass is going to take weeks to replace but we will be carrying on with business as usual. Come down and see us Fridays, Saturdays & some Sundays (open more days during the summer) for all things Vintage in Ventnor.

Hi there debby
Sorry to hear about the damage done to your lovely shop. Hope you didn’t loose too many scrummy things.

Thanks Ruby but we did loose some of the scrummist stuff including a fab 1950′s ‘Black Velvet’ bone china coffee set designed by John Russell. One cup & two saucers survived – that van was going at quite a lick. If anyone out there has any pieces – please let me know!

Sorry – that should be ‘scrummiest’. Scrummist sounds like the shop looked after the event…
