Pro-Turbine Petition Launched on PM’s Website

Tuesday, 5th January, 2010 at 9:33 am, Isle of Wight

Green Issues, Island-wide, News, Politics

An pro-turbine member of the public is urging Islanders to support a new petition urging government support for on-shore and off-shore turbines for the Isle of Wight.

Pro-Turbine Petition Launched on PM's WebsiteCreated via the Prime Minister’s No.10 Website, the petition calls for “Prime Minister to push forward plans for wind turbines on, or offshore from, the Isle of Wight.”

At time of publishing this article there were 568 signatures on the petition which runs until 16th March 2010.

The petition goes on to say “This petition is to show how frustrated people are about the ignorance of people voting and campaigning against wind turbines on the Isle Of Wight because they are not aesthetically pleasing. We have to stop this ‘Not in my back yard’ mentality and show these people that it’s not just the view out of their back garden that is at stake if we don’t act. So by getting enough signatories to show there support I hope for direct Prime Ministerial support for wind turbines on, or offshore from, the Isle of Wight.”

Waste of time and money. And now we’ve had the worst snow and coldest winter for 20 years, it’s obvious to most sensible people that the world is getting COLDER not hotter as several reputable scientists keep stating.

Ah, how I love the sceptics! – One of the biggest potential impact of global warming is changing the natural circualtion of the oceans, and in the North Atlantic this is the Gulf Stream, fed by the Artic ice (which is thinning at a critical rate and may well disappear within a decade), and if the Gulf Stream disappears will cause severely cold winters and drier summers. Why do you think our winters are not as harsh as Russia and Canada? Rock on, Shobba.

It’s comments like this Shobba that show your ignorance. Who said that global warming would lead to us all basking in the sun all year round? Why don’t you actually take some time out to do the research, watch some programmes on the subject rather than just spouting off this kind of nonsense. I’d expect better knowledge of the situation from a ten year old. Sigh!

Excellent, well.. if the earth is getting colder then all the more reason to build turbines.. how else will we heat our homes and cook our food when the oil runs out?
