People often get in touch with VentnorBlog and ask us questions – some easy to answer, others much more of a challenge. We thought we’d share one of the recent ones with you as you might find it helpful – Ed

Where to Buy Sake On The Isle of Wight: Thanks Facebook & Twiter Heroes! We were contacted by ZoZo on Twitter (What’s Twitter?) who asked us if we knew where to buy the Japanese rice wine, Sake.

After a bit of head scratching we hadn’t come up with anything, so we sent an appeal out to our Island Twitter and Facebook pals and we’re delighted to say that they came up trumps.

Answers come flooding in
In a flurry of responses, we heard from Angela Janus; Kayt Armstrong; and Dave Holley on Facebook and Jaymee Bundell; Lois Prior on Twitter – who all recommended Sainsbury’s as a source of Sake on the Island.

Other places that might be worth trying, but yet unconfirmed are, Orient Store, 24 Meadow Road, Cowes, Tel: 294582 (Martin Welsford) and the beast that is Tescos (Cindy Penney & Laurence Toulson).

Rice wine and Sake are different
Jaymee Bundell also pointed out that there’s a difference between rice wine and sake – Sake to drink, rice wine to cook with.

If it’s for cooking rather than drinking, Jaymee let us know that Easy Weigh in Newport do the Chinese shao shing rice wine and rice wine vinegar.

Big thanks
A big thanks to everyone on Facebook and Twitter who helped us out by chipping in their knowledge and from ZoZo who said, “I knew I could count on you. Thanks you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.Terrific job you do at VB.”
