Youth Council and Youth Parliament Candidates Celebrate

Congratulations to the 25 young people who this week were named as those who will represent the Island at Youth Council and Parliament level.

Youth Council and Youth Parliament Candidates CelebrateWe’re told that a record 2000+ votes were counted for the Youth Council elections and the election for the Isle of Wight Member of the UK Youth Parliament raised a record number of candidates.

Jack Bell was named yesterday as Member of the UK Youth Parliament for the Isle of Wight and the Deputy Member post went to Daniel Clarke.

Congratulations to you both, as well as the 23 young people below who will be representing the north, south, east and west.

North Wight: Scott Goodhew, Ben Yates, Caitlin Day, Lawrie Mason, Thomas Turtle, Logan Wareham and Samuel Hughes.

South Wight: Tyne Samuel, Lou Alabaster, Jordan Cotton, Adi Volney, Tessa Kewell, Ben Furniss and Jacob Smith.

East Wight: Jacob Rich, Robert Jackson, Idrish Hamroush, Oliver Hughes, Kirsty Innard and Jasmin Callan.

West Wight: Atalanta Hersey, Rachael Troward and Lauren Noble.

Isle of Wight Council Leader David Pugh said “This year’s results goes to show that young people on the Island clearly care about local politics.

“Once again we’ve seen a record number of votes cast with each ward being keenly contested.

“The Isle of Wight Council works very closely with the Youth Council on a range of schemes and topics, and I look forward to hearing the views and ideas the youth council will have over the next year”.

    There are no comments on this topic: does that reflect the age group that uses VentnorBlog ?

    I’m glad to see that young people want to get engaged with politics at all levels because this shows that they have hope and faith in the system.

    Good luck to them. I’m sure they will tell Mr. Pugh some things he needs to listen to.

      The answer to you first question is yes!
      Generally, youngsters have always shown little or no interest in politics; they want to have fun; I know I did.

      When they do hear about the pantomime going on at Westminster, I would think it would deter them even more.

      Hope and faith in the system! Our system of government is out-dated and undemocratic.

      When the Mayor of London can SELECT his father and his brother for safe Tory seats, without the electorate having any say in their SELECTION, it just illustrates just how undemocratic we are.

      There are many other examples of this.
      Cameron is SELECTING many young ladies to fill the vacancies made by disgraced sleazy MPs. who
      have been forced to resign.
