Top National Award For Island Cancer Nurse

Many congratulations to Anne Snow, a well respected Lung Cancer/ Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist who is based at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for picking up the ‘Cancer Nurse Leader of the Year’ at the prestigious 2009 Nursing Times Awards.
The awards ceremony, which recognise outstanding contributions made to the nursing profession was held recently at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane.
Anne not only works in the hospital providing lung cancer care but also works in the community. She has been pivotal in developing open access’ lung cancer services, enabling patients needing access to specialist services can be seen by her the same day.
But it doesn’t stop there, Anne has recently become the Lead Clinician for lung cancer at the Primary Care Trust and is currently the South Coast Network Chair – the first nurse in the UK to fill this role.
Sheila Paul, Chief Operating Officer for NHS Isle of Wight said: I am delighted that Anne’s outstanding dedication and support for cancer patients on the Island has been recognised at a national level. She really does inspire those around her and puts her patients at the heart of everything she does.”
Commenting on her achievement, Anne Snow said: “It is a real privilege to receive the Cancer Nurse Leader award but I could only have achieved this through the support of the Lung Cancer team and the South Central Lung Cancer Group, so they deserve a big thank you.”
