Isle of Wight Festival 2010: The Strokes Headline Saturday Night

Monday, 30th November, 2009 at 8:10 am, Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight Festival, Music, Newport, News

NME voted them Best New Act and Best International Band back in 2002 along with Best Album for This Is It which eight years later, has been awarded Album of the Decade.

Isle of Wight Festival 2010: The Strokes Headline Saturday NightYes folks, indie-rocking guitar heroes, The Strokes, will be larging it up at the 2010 Isle of Wight Festival.

We understand that the five piece from New York have been slogging it out in the studio all summer, working on a new album which fans have been awaiting with baited breath for quite some time.

John Giddings says “Ever since I heard the first Strokes album, I’ve wanted them for the Isle of Wight. I can’t wait!”

Details of tickets at the bottom of the article, but in the meantime, how about checking out some Strokes action on YouTube

How uninspiring. I really hope this is a money-saving Saturday night so Solo can afford something massive for the Sunday.

The Strokes are probably the biggest new band in the country having just won numerous NME awards including best albumn of the decade

compared to the Who and Rolling Stones they are…they won all those awards this year…and in response to the announcment, booking for that weekend have just shot through the roof….far quicker and earlier than last year, with the Strokes being quoted as the main reason.

I’d be interested to know where those “facts” come from – there were no bands announced at all at this time last year and as tickets don’t go on sale until Friday I’m curious as to where your booking stats come from!

I’ve been following the IoW Festival Forum on their website and I’d say there was actually more enthusiasm about Pink and Squeeze than any of the other acts so far.

Seems a fairly eclectic mix so far – looking forward to seeing who Mr Giddings has up his sleeve for Sunday before I make any decisions about going.
