Vestas Protest: Noon Deadline For Eviction

Friday, 27th November, 2009 at 11:43 am, Isle of Wight

Green Issues, Law & Order, Newport, News, Vestas Sit-In

On a very cold and windy morning in Newport, bailiffs have arrived at the Vestas roundabout.

After a short discussion, the occupiers informed the bailiffs that it would take several hours for them to remove all their belongings, however, the bailiffs have advised the occupiers, two of which are ex-Vestas workers that they have until noon to clear the area.

Given that the four month old makeshift camp is very equipped with a large tent housing a lounge with sofas, tables, book shelves etc, as well as a seperate tent with a kitchen area and around four other tents in which the occupiers have been sleeping, we can understand how it will take longer to clear than an hour.

The roundabout also sports several vegetable patches with food growing in them and a couple of solar panels that have been used to provide light and power for electrical equipment.

The two bailiffs arrived in a SUV, but at least three other large vans have arrived, all carrying beefy looking guys who are watching on from a distance.

Attempts are being made by the occupiers to start clearing the space, but it is obvious to everyone here that they will not be complete by midday.

The mobile police unit has just arrived and the press officer and a handful of other police officers are also in attendance.

We’ll keep you informed as to what happens, when it happens, Check the VB twitter stream for more immediate updates.

These are human beings you know. Whether you agree with them being there or not they are still entitled to be treated with respect and given the chance to collect their belongings. Who are you to say that their belongings should be put in a skip.
It never ceases to amaze me how nasty some people can be

      My island….

At least put your first name to the comment if you plan on speaking on behalf of this Island. better still don’t bother and go find some friends that you clearly don’t have.

People like you give OUR island a bad name!

Been down there today and had a chat with a few of them. Glad to see they plan on sticking around!

It’s not as if they didn’t know it was happening. The bulldozer will do just nicely for this bunch of opportunist ecomentalist. Some psychiatric help may be in order over at Severnacres?

And the benefits agency may also want to check if they’ve been ‘available to work’ whilst camped on the island.

To the authors of the extremely nasty comments one reads among the replies I cannot help wondering if you believe in the saying ‘What goes around, Comes around’ and one day you could quite easily find yourselves on the end of someone else’s vile tongue lashings.

Furthermore, these people to whom you direct your comments are mostly Island residents, some with University Degrees, own businesses and others attending retraining at the Isle of Wight College.

They are not, as you suggest ‘The Scum of The Earth’ living on Benefits!!

Good heavens woman, what is ‘nasty’ about my view that some of these people should be questioned on their benefit status and made to clean up their mess before being helped on their way?

I am as certain that extremist climate change campaigners are in need of psychiatric assesment as I am that the sun will rise tomorrow. What is it about those of us who disagree with you that makes you so angry?

By the way I read today that Cumbria had severe flooding in the 1950’s. Was that ‘man made climate change’ Note please the high water mark on the wall half way up Wooton High St. It happened almost 100 years ago. If it happened again now, I dread to think how you would hysterically misuse it as ‘evidence’ to support your views.

Any chance of seeing some evidence for yours?

Have read a lot of opinions, but I’m yet to see any facts yet.

Please link to some of the information/sources you’re using so that others can view it for themselves.

You claimed over 700 top scientists and in agreement with you and I’d be very interested to see who they are (and who they work for).

Well there all gone now and thank god. The constant harrasment of ordinery workers should stop now. To add why do you say “beefy looking guys”. Well i thaught they done a good job. I did see that one “smelly looking” protester was arrested. What a shame that they let themselves down when it comes to public order. I do wish that they would obay the law. My heart goes out to the ordinery workers who pay taxes and obay the law. Maybee the local benefit office should do a check on the people that occupied the roundabout for the last four months, to see if they have been available for work. Peace and good riddance.

And just what makes you think that everyone on the roundabout was claiming benefits. These kinds of comments are typical of your narrowmindedness, bigotry and ignorance.
Shobba, people are allowed to have and keep their posessions and to suggest that their belongings are skipped was nasty.

I do agree and someone should check out those at Westminster and in the Other Place who have been on the fiddle for a lot longer than four years, never mind four months.

If the protester at the roundabout had been given five years notice to quit; I do not think anyone would have been inconvenienced.

Regulars on this site are not stupid and will know who you are. I happen to know what ‘forums’ you seem to spend all your time on! Not this one is it?

You spend more time on another forum trying to put VB down but you keep coming back here? Why?.

I hope Simon & Sal can do like we can and see your IP address, all your posts and work out all your different user names you have used. ;)

You go on about sponging off the dole but seem to have more time on your hands than anyone. What do you do for a living? whine?
