Tankers Move On At Last … Well Almost
Monday, 23rd November, 2009 at 10:31 am, Isle of Wight
The Southern Daily Echo were reporting on Saturday that eight of the large tankers that have been moored off the coast of the Island, for goodness knows how long, were due to move to Fawley over the weekend.
The tankers were rumoured to be waiting for the price of crude oil to rise before off-loading their cargo in Southampton.
Their presence off the east coast of the Island has has upset some, who claim they’ve been littering the sea with their permanent moorings. Others tell us that they’ve enjoyed watching the twinkling lights on clear nights.
However, according to the great hobbyist Website, AIS Live, which tracks the movements of vessels on the water, it looks as though not all tankers moved as anticipated.
Lian Yun Hu and Sturgeon still appear to be moored off the Island, we’re not sure why they didn’t move on, but perhaps it had something to do with the horrendous weather.
The other tankers that moved at the weekend were; Bloom, Zuma, Clyde Fisher, Janne Wonsild, Clipper Sira, and Clipper Sund.
