I guess the consultation didn’t involve the question ‘we have £80,000 to spend on Shanklin, how would you like it spent?’

If they had I bet these works would be way down the list, if even on it at all.

Agree with all comments – waste of money and did not receive public support.

However, have to say, it is not a square and should not be called one – it has always been the NatWest Triangle. If you wish to emphasis the town bit, call it the town triangle.

The stone costs a fortune and seems to be the new in-thing – they have covered Southampton in it too and spent years doing it. I like tarmac – nice and cheap.

And all to put the Christmas tree on it – there isn’t even any benches or seating other than for the businesses.

I like the impression given by the tables outside in the picture…outside the Ferrets resteraunt that has been closed for 2 years and has never been a successful business.

Is that the conservative club just opposite that wil have a lovely Christmas Tree outside this year.

And this is only part of the Great Shanklin Rip Off. The next part…paving the end of Regents Street is an even bigger waste of our money

The main problem with Shanklin has always been that it has too many small centres and this is just creating another. NatWest Square? or historically Provincial Square? Perhaps Triangle rather than Square. However, consultation in the back room of the Shanklin Conservative and Unionist Club was unanimous.

I agree, who needs the public triangle? Just exactly what kind of events are they planning to hold in the tiny space? Surely the money could have been better spent elsewhere?

utter utter utter waste of money when so many other projects would be better suited.

By public support I can only think they mean withing the Town Council. I’ve yet to hear any anywhere else
