Drama on Red Funnel Ferry (video)

Monday, 23rd November, 2009 at 7:34 am, Isle of Wight

Ferry, Island-wide, News, Overseas

Looks like the Red Funnel ferry was a little unsettled this morning.

Drama on Red Funnel ferry (video)Mark Thirlwall was on his way back to the Island this morning when we was awoken from a brief nap on the ferry.

Being a keen photographer and Tweet-tastic Mark grabbed his iPhone and shot this video of the boat rocking ‘n’ a rolling just outside Cowes.

Hint: The thing to watch is the lights on the horizon and how close the bottom of the windows on the right get to them.

You’ll also hear a some crashing, which Mark then turned around to take a photo of what was left.

When we asked if it was scary, he said, “No, not scary. Just not seen it that bad before.”

Mark shows us another great example of how, when equipped with a mobile phone and the Internet, unusual experiences can be shared with many.

Nice one Mark! I’d guess by the lack of background squealing it was a fairly empty ferry?

I’ve been on ferries in the past when it’s been pretty rough, and I think it’s other people’s outward panic that rubs off on many who would not normally be too bothered by a bumpy ride.

Oh I’m sooo looking forward to crossing the solent later :)

  2. I used to work for Red Funnel as a kitchen skivvy when I was doing my undergrad degree. back then, in rough weather, all the stuff that feel over would be stowed! I’m just amused that it all fell over…

This mornings 8am Wightlink sailing from Yarmouth had the buffet closed – elf n safety they said.

You could’ve spilt your tea or overpriced fruit juice, but what about the toast or selling you a newspaper? Pathetic, why do people always over-react!

The thing is, it didn’t actually seem to be rolling around very much.

The video is great. The cafe bit always looks like that on a bank holiday! Or was it the blue rinse vandals again.
