Ah, the path of true love never runs smoothly and with the release of Two Lovers on DVD it would seem that James Gray has not only assembled a fine cast to explore a story of the effects of this powerful little noun, yet has also managed to focus on a form of accuracy.

What is inspiring about TWO LOVERS is the dilemma faced by Joaquin Phoenix’s lead character and how the dilemma resolves itself at the end of the film.

From the very beginning, the film gets across the character of Leonard as being troubled and battling with some serious problems. Without giving too much away, the film reveals some serious acting skills by anyone who appears in front of the camera.

When faced with a dilemma the lead character is in, the casting is so effective and the acting so believable that all the viewer can do is sympathise and observe.

Gwyneth Paltrow finally reveals herself as being an actress that has the ability and talent to dazzle and confuse and Vinessa Shaw portrays care and virtuosity.

What is appealing about TWO LOVERS is that the perspective is always changing and much like the dilemma of Leonard, James Gray has directed a film that shows the beauty of New York in Winter as well as the daily grind.

Having spent time living in that city and generally falling in love there, I could very easily understand the situation and therefore show a great respect towards James Gray for directing a powerful and inspiring love story.
