Wednesday, 18th November, 2009 at 10:59 am, Isle of Wight

Community, Environment, Green Issues, Newport, News, Overseas

Those on the Island that are interested in climate change may be aware that there’s a climate change march and rally – called The Wave – taking place in London for 5th December.

Coach Being Organised For London Climate Change Rally: The WaveNewport town councillor Jackie Hawkins is organising a coach up there (in a personal capacity).

Seats are £15 for those that can afford it and £10 unwaged/benefits/students but Jackie says that no-one should be excluded because they can’t afford it and further subsides could be arranged.

Those interested should contact Jackie either by email (hawkinsjackie27(at)googlemail.com – saw (at) for the @ sign) or on 530378.

dissenting voices cast doubt that human agency’s centrally involved.

Remember John Cleese in ‘The Life of Brian’ when he’s organising a stoning? ‘Blasphemer’ he screamed, and this is the attitude many have to so called climate change deniers like Christopher Booker. Don’t expect a reasoned debate, although interestingly, in the film everyone got fed up with John Cleese and stoned him to death – just shows how quickly mobs can turn, and when does a demonstration become a mob?

I’m not quite sure what you 2 are saying. This rally is being sponsored by organisations such as Oxfam, Christian Aid, Salvation Army, Woodland Trust, RSPB, Friends of the Earth and eighty others, all respectable organisations. Climate change IS happening whatever the cause, whoever or whatever is responsible it is happening. All over the world people will be gathering on the 5th December.

I’m simply saying that, for good or ill, this is an issue that has gone beyond debate.

Thankfully Rob there are still lots of people who disagree with your pessimistic and morose view. There is still a lot to fight for, albeit not a lot of time in which to do it in, and thankfully there are still a lot of people who are prepared to stand up and fight for a safe future for our children and future generations, rather than sit and wait to be drowned by rising tides or for the next ice age to freeze us to death. You may have given up but I haven’t.

Its yet another case of ‘choose’ you expert, mixed in with ‘fingers in the ears going lalalalala’

Climate change is happening, whether our fault or not, can we help slow that or even reverse that…we can only hope so, but we have to try.

The ‘fingers in ears ‘ bunch will now provide evidence that humans didn’t create this problem, because they have the inability to properly analyse anything because they are desperate for humans to avoid the blame and therefore need do nothing.

Yes sadly you’re right. I hate it as much as anyone else but facts are facts and our climate is changing for the worse. Let’s hope the politicians come to an agreement that works towards tackling the problems of climate change.
