Ooor er missus, a fancy heat loss seeking vehicle is going to be travelling around the Island next week, hoping to pinpoint homes which could benefit from better insulation.

It’s all part of the tie up between the Isle of Wight Council and E.ON, their new energy partners.

The vehicle which uses thermal-imaging technology will travel around the Island from next Monday from 8pm to midnight, seeking out homes that are loosing heat.

Although the vehicle will be travelling at a snail’s pace of just 10mph, it’s anticipated that it will be able to assess up to 1,000 homes in one hour.

In case you’re worrying about the cameras being able to spy on you, don’t worry they can’t see through walls and are purely out there identifying the heat loss.

If you’re one of the homes that has been assessed as a target for better insulation, you’ll be contacted and shown a personalised thermal report.

The next stage would be to then inform you of how you can take advantage of new Island Insulation scheme.

Cllr Edward Giles, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for the environment and transport said: “The HeatSeekers vehicle is an excellent way to identify quickly homes that may benefit from insulation. By working with E.ON, HeatSeekers and insulation installation experts Mark Group, we have been able to offer Island residents a great opportunity to get low-cost loft and cavity wall insulation which will keep people warmer during the winter and lower energy bills. This will also help in the all important task of reducing the Island’s carbon footprint.”
