I think the pedestrianisation of the Esplanade is long overdue and whilst inconveniencing some of us...can only add to the enjoyment of this lovely stretch of cove. But where ARE ... those extra pedestrians... going to sit? Re-iterating the question put by a previous person.... there seem to be none in the pictures. Please do tell us this has been a graphic oversight and that common sense prevails...
Further, are the planters going to be kept, or even added to, since this softens the harshness of pure concrete and adds, so easily, a "Riviera" style to Ventnor.

Strange how there appears to be no IWCC cash to fix the leaks in the roof of the Winter Gardens, yet there is £100K to polish up the Eplanade....

Mixed priorities?

The planters being removed also have seating attached. What are the plans for replacing all these lost bench seats - anyone know? Nothing about them in the four pictures. We actualy need more seating during the season, not less.

I'm really pleased these works are going ahead and that they'll be complete by Easter when we start to see visitors back in the town. I remember sitting outside a cafe in March with the sun pouring down and finally being able to see the beach rather than just parked cars. It couldn't happen sooner in my opinion, as for the businesses moaning about the road being closed - when do you expect it to happen? In the 25th hour of the day?

The Highways Dept and the Cabinet Member for Transport cannot go very far wrong in putting in a footpath. It is when they start tinkering with town-wide traffic flows that everything goes pear-shaped, as they seem to have no expertise or understanding of how to analyse and deal with the problems. Newport is a prime example, where tinkering with bus lanes and cutting off a few yards of two-way traffic has made a mess of the whole system, so that sometimes you have to go all around town to move 50 yards, and everything is funnelled in to the Coppins Bridge gridlock. Now they are starting on the centre of Shanklin (see the posts in the Forum). I don't know what the widely-discredited Ernie Fox used to do in the real world, but I can't believe that putting a solicitor in charge of Transport is going to improve things.
