We’re sure that many of you will have already heard about the tragic road traffic collision that took place on Sunday afternoon in Newport.
At around 1pm on Sunday, a red Toyota Corolla collided with an ambulance that was responding to a call which has sadly resulted in the death of Robert John Hammond, 53, of the Esplanade, Sandown.
In a statement, Mr Hammond’s family said: “He was much loved and will be greatly missed by his son, mother and father, sister and brother and all his close family.
“Our thoughts go out to the other casualties involved in the incident.”
Mr Hammond’s passenger, a 40-year-old Newport man was taken to Southampton General Hospital and today remains in a critical but stable condition.
The 51-year-old Waterlooville nurse who was in the back of the ambulance also remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Our thoughts go out to the families of everyone involved.
