If you work in social care or are a user of the service, you might be interested in joining a group which aims to monitor the new way in which the Isle of Wight Council provides care services to those on the Island.

Due to changes in the way that social care is provided, users of the service will be given more control to ‘pick and choose’ the services they require from a personal budget.

Users of the service will be able to get advice from trained social care staff on how to use the budgets and it will be the responsibility of this new group, the User and Carer Reference Group, to ensure that the new way of working is both effective and ensuring the right level of care for those in need.

So who can join the group?
The council are looking for people with learning, physical or sensory disability, mental health issues and older people to take part in the new group, as well as their carers or family members.

Cllr Dawn Cousins, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for children, social care, health and housing said: “At such an exciting time for social care, we hope to involve people in the process of ensuring that the transformation of Social Care is working as it should be and understood by all. Members of this group will play an extremely important role in shaping the future of social care and we hope to attract members from a wide range of backgrounds.”

The first meeting will take place on Thursday 5 November between 12:30 and 14:30 in the seminar room at Quay Arts in Newport.
