The County Press Appears In Private Eye
Wednesday, 14th October, 2009 at 12:39 pm, Isle of Wight
Well done to the Country Press for gracing the hallowed pages of Private Eye. Quite an honour.
Our copy just arrived today and flicking through we saw a CP headline on page 7 – “Guides delighted with their rubbish award.”
Pop out and grab your copy today!

There are often interesting things about the Isle of Wight council in the ‘Rotten Boroughs’ section of PE

True enough – it’s been a long time though – not sure that Steve Beynon has had a single mention yet since he rose to the position of Chief Exec.

Yes, since Joe ‘Vera’ Duckworth left, it’s been sadly missing.
Here are a couple from back in the good old days of 2007.

Well spotted Mike Starke is my guess.
I hope it’s our squeaky clean council keeping us out of the eye rather than the far worse shenanigans elsewhere around the UK.
Our officer salaries and consultants fees remain a real cause for concern.

This did make me chuckle heartily.

I read this morning that ‘Percy Sutson’ thinks the humour of the headline went over our heads?
Not so ‘Percy’ my dear fellow, it is the ‘humour contained therein’ that had us laughing in the first place – hence the praise.
Good to see you’re still logging on to VB! Are you all still having to take it in turns to access the Internet though?

I confess it was me who sent the ‘Guides delighted…’ headline to P.E. – I’m rather pleased it didn’t go un-noticed, but equally I’m surprised anyone felt it worth further attention on here and in Percy’s column…
I might take up sending newspaper clippings to Private Eye more regularly – they paid me £10 for it!
Of course, if the IW Council took up the practice of deliberately printing similar errors in that rubbish little ‘infozine’ of theirs, it could be a nice little earner…
