MP Andrew Turner Asked For More Documentation By Legg Enquiry (UPDATED)

Tuesday, 13th October, 2009 at 12:48 pm, Isle of Wight

Island-wide, Newport, Politics

Andrew Turner, MP for the Isle of Wight, has like many other MPs received a letter from those carrying out the Legg Enquiry, the official examination of MPs expenses.

He was asked for more documentation.

Andrew Turner has today said, “All my claims were supported by documentary evidence but I have now been asked for some additional paperwork and I will provide this as quickly as possible.

“If I am asked to make any repayment I will, of course, comply with that request.”

Commenting on the next stages of the process, he said, “This is the beginning of a process; I will make a further statement when Sir Thomas releases the final results of his enquiry which is expected to be in three weeks time.”

The news of yesterday’s letters to MPs had been heavily trailed in the media over the weekend, so their arrival is not a surprise.

The background
Back in June this year, Andrew Turner had the contact from The Daily Telegraph that many MPs has dreaded – they were going to be looking into his expenses.

To ensure the process was open, VB took the unusual (if not unique) approach of re-printing the text from the Telegraph, as well as the answers that Andrew Turner returned to them.

About half a month later Parliament released the redacted copies of the expense paper work, which we covered in some detail.

Just amazed at the headline for this in the County Press – “MP will repay expenses, if asked.”

How favorable a version of the news is that?

All of this just a day after they run “Isle of Wight MP praised at conference” which was a story from last Wednesday. Why the delay in that story coming out

Am I alone in wondering if that was done to soften people up for any bad news that might come in the form of a letter today?

Letters to and fro – About time the police did their duty. Far too much pussy footing about.

Just heard that Jacqui Smith will be given a Peerage. What has happened to our once great country?

No doubt other fraudsters will be sent there, especially, if (wisteria) Cameron becomes PM.

The house of Lords will soon become the ‘House of Sinners’. Some of the latest lot will make Lord Archer look like a saint.
