It bothers me when people assume fox hunting is purely a town vs country debate. I know as many people in rural parts of the Wight that are against hunting with dogs as I do “townies” that are against. Personally I’m a lot happier without the hunt-juggernaut ploughing through the lanes since the ban. Even aside from the ethics of fox-hunting, the dogs leave an awful mess which no-one clears up, and scare the living daylights out of domestic animals. I think it would be a major error on Cameron’s part to try to bring it back.

I would argue that fox’s population are constantly on an ebb and flow (proper foxes not your urban monster) and that we are going through a peak period. Many of the foxes we see in our gardens are not the rag tag urban foxes you see in larger towns, but opportunist country foxes roaming into new areas.

Fox hunting was never an effective way of controlling the species. At best they caught and killed the weaker foxes, but also ‘trained’ others to be more ’sly’ and ‘cunning’ The numbers they killed was never an effective control.

If you have a real problem with foxes, get a license and go and shoot them.

I don’t beleive foxes should be protected per say, just protected from a truly horrible death

Still doesn’t explain why I loose so many post ban as compared to pre ban. And when I say loose I should clarify that, I end up with the remains of most as the fox(s) only take a few.

and you would know that hunying, supposedly, was a natural way of weedling out the sick and unhealthy foxes, thus leaving the clever fit ones that eat your chickens…at least that is what te hunt claims.

On another day, they claim that it is just a social event and so few foxes actually get caught, thus your chickens would still be in jeopardy

thirdly, just as many foxes are killed by the new hunt as were killed by the old, except this nowadays they are shot rather than ripped apart.

Us country folk should stick together rather than spread misinformation.

When you townies have finished cudling charming mr foxy woxy can you tell me why before the ban i lost an average of 2 hens per year to foxes and now i lose an average of 58 per year to foxes?
Perhaps if you lived off the land like some of us do instead of buying your square ham and processed chicken from supermarkets. You would appreciate the damage that foxes wreak in the countryside.

Hunting anything for fun or sport is beyond reason i would like to string the lot up and leave them to rot .

The stupid foxhunters can petition all they want..the law was passed with massive public support and since the ban, more people nationally attend hunts.

Contrary to the myth spread before the band, more people are employed now than before the ban.

There is no social or economic reason to repel it and those that want too simply miss the bloodlust
