Chale Primary School Given More Time
Thursday, 1st October, 2009 at 8:00 am, Isle of Wight
Chale, Isle of Wight Council, School Reform, Ventnor
During a marathon six hour IW Council meeting last night, it was decided that Chale Primary school be given more two more months to explore other possibilities beyond just being closed down. The most likely of these being federation with another school.
The decisions of the council still need to be ratified by the cabinet tonight, but it would be very surprising if changes were made.
You can read the full details in our live reporting of the event.
Despite strong debate, Ventnor wasn’t able to gain the same.

We’ll never know what could have been achieved if Ventnor had TWO councillors prepared to speak up for the town in this debate.

I can’t believe what Scoccia said “It’s nonsense that the town [Ventnor] is against this. I only found one opposer”. Why does she think that Cllr Welsford of SNT replaced Conservative J-F Bond ? Why does she think that her majority was just 11 votes in the recent election ? Could that be seen as a rejection of the Ventnor schools reform proposals ? I think so.

If she could only find 1 person against it, she’s not looking hard enough.

She was only looking in her frontroom

7, Steepy, 7.
I share your incredulity.
What parallel universe is she living in?!

OK 7 Steve. But take a look at the total votes for County Council candidates supporting and opposing the school reforms:
Those in favour: Bond 362 Scoccia 562
Those against: Welsford 503 Stubbings 555
Total of those in favour = 924
Total those against = 1058
OK there was more on the agenda than school reforms but to say that Ventnor supports these changes is “nonsense”, to use Scoccia’s word.

Unfortunately what is said, however damaging, will be remembered long after the truth is brushed away.

seems that, despite being told to go out and find a school to be ‘federated’ with by the council…and finding one, Godshill, the council has announced that the plan does not match their policy amidst rumour that surrounding schools were encouraged not to ‘federate’ with Chale

Who would trust this council and its leaders when the move the goalposts without telling people and what hope for other ventures thrown a lifeline, like Shanklin Theatre, when that lifeline just becomes another lie to distract people from this councils distruction of OUR Island
