Vestas Protest: Vestas Take Legal Action to Move Blockade

Thursday, 17th September, 2009 at 9:17 pm, Isle of Wight

Green Issues, Newport, Vestas Sit-In

Workers’ Liberty are today reporting that Vestas Management are attempting to take legal action to move the protest blockade at Marine Gate in Newport.

It states that “Vestas bosses had two legal documents delivered to the blockade. One is a lawyers’ letter saying that Vestas has a right of use on the land between the “marine gate” and the jetty where the blades would be loaded onto barges, and demands that workers and supporters who are camping there move on. The other is a letter from the local council saying that the council plans to move on the campers from the land – which is council land – under the laws commonly used to evict travellers.”

about time the council finally did something! They are an annoyance to all who use the cycle path to Cowes and back treating the path/cycle way and land as if it were there own. They are NOT supposed to be protesting there anyway. If they read the documents posted around the site they state they can only “protest” on the roundabout outside main gates which i think is fair. They have been given some where to lawfully protest so use it!

Sorry Bob, but I’ve been down to the Marine Gate, and considering the number of people who’ve dropped in for tea and a chat, or stopped by to sign letters to the council and pledge their support, or just to give a thumbs up as they pass, I hardly think you can say the blockade camp is “an annoyance to all who use the cycle path” – Quite the opposite in fact, as you would know if you’d worked on security there. Why not come by for a chat yourself?

And if you are the one person I didn’t meet down there who DOES find it annoying, just remember how annoyed those men and their families are feeling about trying to pay their mortgages after being sacked by the big V.

‘Annoyance to all’ – I’m sorry, Bob, but are you there all the time? The cycle path is always clear for cyclists and other track users. Would you say that dog walkers are a nuisance to cyclists all the time and visa versa? A lot of walkers are more than happy and often stop for a chat. As for the cyclists, they fly along the track, far too fast for safety. It is dual puprpose track and the cyclists often treat it as their own private race track. I am personally fed up with feeling that something is going to hit me from behind everytime i use the track to walk my dog, and even more worried that the dog will be badly hurt by an inconsidorate cyclist. As for the ‘permisson to protest’ on the roundabout – i understood that people have the right to ‘protest’ anywhere, or is this no longer a free coountry. The notices by the roundabout are in regard to safety of the protest i.e. they didn’t want numbers getting too big and spread out to cause a danger to the public or others using the sites around the area.

Guys – its not always clear numerous time i have cycled by to Cowes and there were lots people stood milling around across the cycles track cups of T in hand waving leaflets in peoples faces trying to get them to stop and drum up support. If I wanted to stop I would. Dont get me wrong I feel for those that have lost there jobs (most as I have read on VB have got jobs now) but the whole protest thing has gone on now too long and lots of people are just not interested any more. As for the notices at the roundabout perhaps you should read them it has nothing to do with health and safety rather imposing conditions on public assemblies.
I also consider myself a considerate cyclist and abide by rules of shared pathways – I cannot obviously speak for all and I appreciate there are unfortunately some reckless cyclists around who do not think about others

I have read lots of negative comments within the numerous replies to articles published on this site about the ‘Vestas Workers Campaign’. And would like to stress that without all the help and assistance offered and accepted, from supporters of various groups and varying walks of life. The workers themselves would not have been sufficient in numbers to have achieved what they have thus far.
Many use the name ‘Activists’ when describing those of us in society who are prepared to put energy and time into fighting for what we and others believe in, I would be bolder and call us ‘Campaigners’, those who above all odds have the courage of their convictions, to stand up and be counted!!.
Furthermore, if all the ‘Negative NIMBYS’ of not only the Isle Of Wight but throughout the UK gave any real thought and consideration to what sort of planet they are going to leave, their children and future generations. They would realise the importance of what should be taking place with the erection of ‘Wind Energy Turbines’ which Vestas would have then continued to manufacture on the Isle Of Wight. Thus preventing the present situation of Redundant and Sacked workers fighting for the rights to work.
I cannot help wondering just how many know the true hardship and mental anxiety the Sacked Workers are experiencing, even more so when they read continued negative accusations written about them in the Ventnor Blog by fellow Islanders and former Vestas workers.

Bob, just ring your bell and I’m sure they’ll let you pass unhindered. If there are lots of people there, it only shows the level of support there is for the protestors.I passed through today on my bike and had a lovely chat with one of the friendly guys there. The only disquieting aspect of the experience was the stares from the security guard inside the plant. One of the things that makes this country great is the right to express one’s views and to demonstrate, rights that are being eroded by attitudes such as yours – and as for Pugh and co, they’re upset that they’ve been sidelined and been shown to be ineffective.

All of these propaganda points have already been refuted in previous posts by myself and others – I’m not going to bother repeating the arguments here – just browse through the previous articles if you’re interested. I notice that none of the activists have been able to answer any of the direct questions I’ve put to them. As regards intimidation just read todays County Press.

These people haven’t really achieved anything? From what I see they are putting even more islanders jobs at risk with this “protest”.

I see the county press have printed the part about the criminal damage to the crane track, which the pro activist vb moderators deleted, how many other posts have you deleted because they were against these trouble makers..

Go back to your cave no one is interested..
