News reaches us that a ‘Pro Wind’ display will be taking place in conjunction with Friends of the Earth tomorrow in Newport.

Vestas Protest: Day of Action DisplayThe display will take place outside Millets and the Early Learning Centre between 11am-3pm.

It’s hoped that the display will raise awareness for the issues surrounding jo losses at the Vestas wind turbine blade plant earlier in the year and gather support for the Cheverton Down Turbine Application, which goes to Planning Committee in October.

Details of the Vestas Protest March taking place from 12.30 will follow later today on VB.

People need to read the free online book by the newly appointed Chief Scientific Adviser to the Dept of Energy and Climate Change Cambridge Prof MacKay “Sustainable Energy – without the hot air”. He explains in clear language and valuable diagrams what the issues are and how the many possible ways of generating energy may be feasible. Wind power is essential and as soon as possible both on land and at sea, but we will need to fund other ways as well. Most importantly in this debate, he dismisses many of the myths put forward against the use of wind turbines.
