Vestas Sit-in: Day 8 Phone Call To The Inside (podcast)
Tuesday, 28th July, 2009 at 3:56 pm, Isle of Wight
Green Issues, Newport, Vestas Sit-In, podcast
Here’s the catch up that we had with Mike on the inside at the Vestas sit-in this morning.
The summary is below, with more detail in the recording below
- The protesters were concerned that the money announced by the government might not be all new money (NB: we have just received confirmation from an official at the DECC that the £6m announced yesterday is all new money).
- Vestival Starts: Details of the cinema they’d setup on Sunday
- Those in the sit-in are trying to find themselves things to keep their minds active
- Tomorrows court case: They won’t be leaving the building as they wouldn’t be able to get back in
- If they are able to stay for another six weeks, they will.
- They’ll “put on a show” for the people coming down from the Big Green Gathering.

Yep, Ventnor Blog was there first, I know (well done VB). I’m just keeping an eye on how it’s being covered in the national press.
Back to local level, I appreciated Ross Findon’s piece in the CP about how what’s happening at Vestas squares (or not) with the council’s supposed eco-island vision. More analytical than most of the stuff they do.

Best of luck to the occupying workers!
What a mad world where we need to reduce carbon, but sack the very workers that can do this.
