Many people will be aware of the proposed changes to the IW Fire & Rescue Service taking place on the Island.

If you have an interest in the provision for the South Wight area you might want to head down to the Ventnor Winter Gardens at the end of the month for a presentation on the proposals.

A number of options were put forward for this area and considering all points from other options, it was agreed to go with Option 5.

It was agreed that this option would be achievable within three years as opposed to five in other options. It is also affordable in terms of capital and revenue costs.

The Project Board therefore agreed that Option 5 is the preferred Option as follow.

• Ventnor
“A new station located on St Boniface Road with 1 Retained pump.”

Ventnor’s patch covers Wroxall, Whitwell, Niton, St Lawrence, Chale and Bonchurch.

Is one fire engine for that massive area safe? Is it safe for the fire fighters?

As many will remember, St Wilfred’s church fire alone had eight fire engines on scene.

Cuts cost lives.
