nice to see you are leeching off the back of our islands scooter rally thanks to you and your greed there is a very good chance it will be cancelled next year i am sure all the business owners in ryde will be very impressed.
as an island resident and a very well known scooterist i will be doing my utmost to get your event to line your own pockets boycotted by the scooter scene.
sometimes you can bite off more than you can chew you underestimate the resolve of scooter riders we know when we are being used by fly by night profiteers like you and your cronies.
i do hope your greed bites your hand off.

Sour grapes mate. The VFM do not have exclusive rights to stage events on the Isle of Wight or anywhere else for that matter. They kicked up a fuss last year when some local businessmen put on a free event on on Ryde seafront and these guys did not make any money from it but they still got slated. Over 2,000 scooterists patroned the event even though the VFM claimed it was boycotted. All the admission money went to the poppy appeal. I dont beleive that the VFM will be affected by this event financially so whats the problem?

VFM do a good job of running their part of the Rally…but unfortunately they think blackmailing the Island and its inhabitants and visitors is a good idea…well let them pull out. Next year is the 30th anniversary of scooter rallies to the Island…VFM have only run it for 12. Other people turned this Rally around after the trouble the scootersits caused in the mid 80’s and turned it into the great Rally it is today…VFM just jumped on their bandwagon.

VFM should concentrate on what it does best..and leave the rest to people who know better, especially those that live here.

We hav’nt got a problem sailor sam.. we just want to get on with putting on the Scooter Rally, which we’ve been doing for fifteen years or so.. its just that we rely on the income from this event to put back into UK scooter rallies.. thats why we may seem a little over protective.. We just love our Scene.. But Craig is right in saying that the British Scooter Rallies association is considering moving the scooter Rally to the mainland next year.. which makes us very sad.. let it…it will loose its biggest cash cow.

This is the showcase scooter event in the world and it doesn’t need VFM…VFM needs it to showcase its events.

If VFM can’t recoqnise that a tourist Island on a Bank Holiday will have a range of events put on then it needs to re-evaulate its ability as a promoter.

Its childish reaction to the event last year and the one this year seriously detracts from its persona as a genuine event organiser.

If BSRA pull out, then someone else will step in. The rally is bigger than VFM and the BSRA.

Sorry Steve..That probably seems a little harsh…but you need to realise that this is a tourist driven Island in the Summer and promoters are going to want to put on events…if every single scooter rider pulled out of the Isle of Wight on the bank holiday, we would still be overbooked.

You provide a brilliant service, but don’t let it lead to complacenty. If you are not here, someone else (scooter orientated or not) will be.

Maybe you should look at yourself first Steve before talking about people beeing greedy. If you don’t like the competition mate. Get out of the business. Its in another town on the island. Not in Ryde. I don’t hear you complaining about Jim’s Skinhead do at the Town Club. Or Phil’s do at the cellar club. Or the Mod do at Ryde castle or the many other do’s on over the weekend. Grow up son and except that not everyone wants to go to the Ice Rink, the attmosphere is usually dull, The sound appaling, and the price for a pint is outragious. Just to line your pocket. Nah i will go to Jim and Phil’s do and watch Madness on the Sunday thanks. Because you know what. I have a choice.

It £8 to get in the Ice Stadium on the sat night, and the whole event is run by Scooterists who are attending the SCOOTER rally..
The money goes back into UK Scooter Rallies.. Cant see why you’ve got a problem with that… You sound a bit bitter to me… At the end of the day we are here for the Scooters and the Crack.. Could’nt give a monkeys about this concert at the other side of the Island

why would vfm want to be involved in the Madness gig?
they are a group of Scooterists who in their spare time put on Scooter Rallies, and have been doing it on the Island since 1983.. They are not concert or Festival promoters. Just a bunch of amatures who ride scooters and love the Scooter Scene.. Parts Fairs Custom Shows, evening Entertainment all rolled into one…
Why would they wanna work with huge commercial promoters who are scarily in a totally different league to them… As you can see by the ticket price..
as you say the concert will probably sell out, and will be a great day out, but it has got nowt to do with our Scooter scene, which if you travel around the UK to all the other National Rallies you may understand.
Visit Smallbrook during the day.. Talk Scooters visit the LCGB stand… Chat with the Vespa Club, admire all the machines in the Custom Show at the Ice Rink ..Watch the Scooters gathering on the Green.. Soak up the atmosphere…
I’m riding from Manchester on thursday on my scooter.. Meeting mates on route, who are also riding, some as far away as Scotland.. Most of whom are Sewarding the Site, working in the ice Stadium.. Hav’nt seen a lot of these guys since the last National Rally in Weston Super Mare..

For us it will be yet another great National Scooter Rally this Summer..

Like i say i will be going to JIM and Phil’s Skinhead do’s. Only £5.00 to get in. I will however be making the most of the rally and going to see Madness. My ticket cost me £28.00 not £43.00. I personally think it will be money well spent. You and VFM are the reason why so many club rallies are becoming so popular. The Nationals are being invaded by non scooterists, and you are happy to cater for them eh? Gone are the days when we are treated like shit and used by our own kind. Accept that competition keeps the scene healthy on the Nationals. We want variety. If you keep up your arrogance mate, VFM and scootering in general will suffer in the long run.

VFM have only been running this rally for 12 years. Before that it was the CCI and Nuts Mod Rallies that restored this Islands faith in Scooterists. The NSA agreed with Nuts they would’nt encroach on their rally, but a soon as VFM took over they jumped on the band wagon.

They do a fantastic job of running the rallies. I hope they continue to so and keep their noses out of Island business

I would strongly advise people not to buy tickets yet – they may not be able to get their money back when the event is cancelled. Currently the event does not have a licence, and the application is opposed by local people, local councillors and English Heritage, among others. It is proposed for a Conservation Area in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the access is down a long dirt track restricted to a width of 2 metres, so it does not satisfy Health and Safety rules for emergency access. English Heritage will close off Carisbrooke Castle parking and are worried about damage to their Grade I listed building and its grounds. None of the lanes and footpaths leading to the venue have any lighting, and there is no site integrity to prevent gate-crashers or overloading of portable toilet facilities which will have to be trucked in. It looks like a disaster waiting to happen, and this kind of rave in a quiet inaccessible part of Bowcombe valley has not been properly thought through. It may never happen, folks.

      Hi Everyone -
As promoters of the ‘Summer Madness’ event in Carisbrooke we are happy to set the record straight and correct misinformation.

Operational plans submitted for the Madness concert do not and will not require any use of Carisbrooke Castle car parking. We have a good working relationship with English Heritage and are addressing all of their concerns as part of our event management plan.

We have and will continue to comply with all statutory and ‘good practice’ requirements under both the Isle of Wight Act and the Licensing Act 2003.

John Curd is a promoter of over 30 years standing, including outdoor events of much greater capacity throughout the UK. All services and infrastructure have been commissioned from the best professional agencies and sourced where possible from Island companies and services at his insistence.

Our security management plan is led by a premier and experienced UK provider supplemented with local staff and we have addressed English Heritage security issues at our expense.

We are working with local emergency services who will be working with us on the day i.e. IoW Fire & Rescue, local NHS & St. John’s Ambulance and Hampshire police. These costs have been agreed and bourne by the promoter. Our traffic management plan, access & egress to the event has been agreed with IoW Council Highways, Police, English Heritage and shuttle buses provided by Southern Vectis will run from the Co-op in Cowes and Ryde Esplanade to and from site. Car parking and drop off points have been identified.

All necessary and legal requirements re: toilets, ancillary services, rubbish clearance security of site etc. have been addressed as one would expect of any professionally run event.

The Isle of Wight Act is a piece of legislation that prevents events that have “not been properly thought through in advance” or “last minute wheezes” from seeing the light of day. As promoters we have complied and will continue to comply with all statutory notice periods, stipulations and requirements.

John Curd comments “As an Island resident, I want to create a boutique music event, that offers fantastic fun at a great location. The Isle of Wight has a growing reputation for great music and we want to add to that reputation by providing a yearly event that puts on the very best of music in one of the most beautiful settings in the British Isles.”

Outside of the issues covered above, any genuine and relevant concerns should be submitted through the appropriate channels where they can be addressed responsibly.

Hope to see you there – licensed capacity permitting!

I personally have never been to a VFM event at the ice rink as it doesn’t appeal to me, if they have the same loyal punters the Madness gig won’t affect them.

As for the scooter rally not returning to the island, didn’t they say that last year due to the ‘Ryde Interchange’ that hasn’t appeared?

I myself own a scooter and love August bank holiday and have bought a ticket for Madness as it will make a change. Ryde is always quieter on the Sunday night so may perhaps keep more over here meaning the island makes a little bit more. Can’t be a bad thing surely? And as for people boycotting it….. tickets seems to be selling well and I know a lot of people from the scooter scene going.

The decision to grant a license for the event cannot officially be made until after the meeting on Monday 17th August (very poor planning ahead by organisers and local council officers who seem to be trying to bulldose it through without using the proper channels).
The official organising of this event, in part, notifying all of the right organisations and the local residents, was left until the ‘eleventh hour’ which does not give time for proper processes.

    Update

With reference to the ‘Pop Music’ Event adjacent to Carisbrooke Castle.

Tickets have been on sale for some time without the event being given a licence to take place.

The meeting to decide whether the event can take place is apparently to be held Monday 17th August 2009, just two weeks before the proposed event.

It seems that there has been no sensible forward planning by either the Local Council or the Event organisers.

Were the local residents officially informed as soon as possible of the intention of disruption to their locality?

The Local Council have been promoting the event and the sale of tickets on their website for quite some time – do the Elected Councillors know about this pre-decision promoting?

From what I have heard from local people it seems that this ‘Event’ is being bulldosed through by unelected council officers who have not used ‘proper procedures’.

I assume that, if ‘proper procedures’ have been taken, physical evidence of this will be present at the meeting on Monday 17th August 2009 – is this the date the licence will be either granted or not?

When was the licence actually applied for?

What happens if permission is not granted?

How much council tax payers money has already been spent by the local council on this event before the licence being granted?

I’ve heard no full refund on tickets – is this true? Is it worth me buying a ticket if a decision is made to stop it at any time before the event?

Are the Bands aware of all of this?
