Best of luck goes out from everyone at VB to the team of athletes who are representing the Isle of Wight in the NatWest Island Games in Åland this week.
Special congratulations go to 28 year old, Andrew Frost, who has already managed to bag a gold medal in the Hammer Throw.
Having been to this gorgeous Island ourselves, which sits half way between Finland and Sweden, we can safely say that this is a fabulous setting for the 13th NatWest Island Games.
Over 3,000 althetes from Islands around the world have descended upon Åland and when you consider that they only have a population of around 28,000 people, that’s a lot of extra bodies.
We have 100 proud sportsmen and women from the Isle of Wight competing in all manner of events from sailing to table tennis, football to badminton and from swimming to golf. Not to mention the athletic disciplines such as long jump, javelin, 100m sprint etc.
We wish them the very best of luck this week and are sure that they’ll be doing the best they can to bring home some medals at the end of the week.
