Isle of Wight Festival, Media, Music, Review
Thanks to friend and contributor to VB, Wendy Varley, for sending through these links to reviews of the Isle of Wight Festival. We’ve got interviews with John Giddings, Tim Burgess and the lovely Lucky Elephant guys to come later this week but in the meantime, check out these reviews. Ed
The Times’ David Hayles awards this year’s Festival four stars, describes Simple Minds as “plodding” and Neil Young’s set as “apocalyptic” (in a good way).
The Independent’s Nick Hasted also gives it four stars, says it’s the best since the Stones headlined two years ago, and describes the Isle of Wight as a “strange and lovely island”.
The Telegraph’s Lucy Jones says it was “lad-rock” dominated but that The Pixies and Neil Young shone through.
NME describes Neil Young’s set as “epic”.
Keep your eyes and ears peeled for VB interviews to come later in the week.

They got it spot on! It was a great festival – Neil Young was awesome – as were The Pixies.

Have to say that while Simple Minds did not set the Festival alight they were far from ‘plodding’, plus they did play ‘I travel’.
Thank fully missed Neil Young to see Killing Joke in the Big Top, Jaz Coleman still mad after all these years! Great choice from Tim Burgess.

I so wanted to see Simple Minds but couldn’t get to the festival (2 toddlers!). Glad to hear they were impressive.

They weren’t, they were ‘plodding’. ;-)
Don’t take Earl Grey’s word for it, he chose Killing Joke over Neil Young!

Killing Joke were superb, amazing atmosphere and Jaz has still got it.
