Like Madness? You’ll Love this news.

It was way back in October 2007 that we were asked to vote for our Most Memorable 2007 Festival Moment for the UK Festival Awards.

Summer Madness On The WightWho had been shortlisted for this award? None other than Suggs from Madness for invading Primal Scream’s headline set at Bestival.

We’re sure that the man will be far better behaved the next time he visits the Isle of Wight as his band Madness take to the stage in the shadow of Carisbrooke Castle. Or will he ;-)

Madness on the Island
Yes folks, Sunday 30th August is the date planned for a 5,000 10,000 capacity open-air gig being named ‘Summer Madness’.

(UPDATES: Now the information has been officially released, we’ve updated the details.)

It’s intended for the event to open its doors from 1pm 3pm on the Bank Holiday Sunday with entertainment running through the day and finishing at the rather respectable time of 10.30pm.

Madness On The WightIt’ll coincide with one of Europe’s largest scooter enthusiast rallies which takes place on the Island over the weekend. We’re certain that many scooterists are sure to make up the swathes of Madness fans who’ll descend on the Isle of Wight for the weekend.

The gig forms part of the 30th Anniversary tour that Madness are doing throughout the year but it won’t be all old tracks they’ll be performing – the British ska band might have been formed way back in the late 1970s but they’re still going strong today and producing new songs.

There’ll be plenty of support acts throughout the day along with a range of licensed bars, food outlets and merchandising stalls.

Tickets for the event will be priced at £35, but there will be a limited number of ‘early bird’ and ‘targeted’ tickets for just £28.

More details are now available – as are tickets for Summer Madness. to come soon about when and where you can get hold of these.

In the meantime, roll up your jeans and take lessons in the nutty boy dance to One Step Beyond …..

Or how about a little Baggy Trousers action?

I know being on the August Bank holiday guarantees, thanks to the scooterists, that this will be a sell out, but surely it would be a sell out any weekend on the Island.

The same thing happened with the moto-cross

It does solve one problem though…we can now take our time with the scooter ride out instead of having to cut it short and get over to Carisbrooke so we don’t miss seeing anyone worthwhile!!

No..its aimed as a family day out. Scootering organisors would have you beleive it is aimed at scooterists so they can bitch and moan about their fantasy franchise being threatened.

Having it that weekend just ensures that all the tickets are sold and it is a success.

Maybe we could get a ball park figure for how many tickets have been sold on the Island?

With reference to the ‘Pop Music’ Event adjacent to Carisbrooke Castle.

Tickets have been on sale for some time without the event being given a licence to take place.

The meeting to decide whether the event can take place is apparently to be held Monday 17th August 2009, just two weeks before the proposed event.

It seems that there has been no sensible forward planning by either the Local Council or the Event organisers.

Were the local residents officially informed as soon as possible of the intention of disruption to their locality?

The Local Council have been promoting the event and the sale of tickets on their website for quite some time – do the Elected Councillors know about this pre-decision promoting?

From what I have heard from local people it seems that this ‘Event’ is being bulldosed through by unelected council officers who have not used ‘proper procedures’.

I assume that, if ‘proper procedures’ have been taken, physical evidence of this will be present at the meeting on Monday 17th August 2009 – is this the date the licence will be either granted or not?

When was the licence actually applied for?

What happens if permission is not granted?

How much council tax payers money has already been spent by the local council on this event before the licence being granted?

I’ve heard no full refund on tickets – is this true? Is it worth me buying a ticket if a decision is made to stop it at any time before the event?

Are the Bands aware of all of this?

very poor line up for the price!!!!!!!!!!!!.as a longtime madness fan its disappointing and for £35.who honestly will enjoy kid creole!!!!!.i,m an islander who appreciates live entertainment but please bands like gentlemens dub club are hardly household names!!!.orange street applied to do it but were ignored.i went to an open air free gig in pompey sunday that featured the rackateers,a top quality original style ska band from pompey and the crowd were mad for it,thousands of them.i,d imagine its going to be a very busy beer tent!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  15. Many thanks to John for arranging this event from a life long madness fan who had until sunday never seen them live.

I went through cancer and a stem cell transplant this time last year and so am very lucky to be here anyway but believe me a life long dream came to pass for my wife and I on Sunday Night.

Worth every penny and one of many things i can cross of my things to do before I die list.
    now.

This Island is beautiful and this summer has been wonderful to experience this year with all the musical events. never again will i take things for granted having now beaten cancer twice in 10 years. I prefer to watch these wonerful musicians and acts than think of listening to harp music or what ever music is dished up when one leaves this place once and for all.

God bless you all and as Gino Washinton said “Thankyou for your joy” & “I feel you Baby”
