Local Elections 09: Councillor Muriel Miller Not Standing At Election (podcast)

Tuesday, 12th May, 2009 at 11:13 am, Isle of Wight

East Cowes, Election, Isle of Wight Council, Politics, podcast

Councillor Muriel Miller Not Standing Again (podcast)Muriel Miller has been an Isle of Wight councillor for eleven years and after the sad loss of her husband last year, has decided not to stand in the forthcoming Isle of Wight elections.

When we’ve seen Muriel Miller in action at various committees (such as chairing the scrutiny committee last night), we’ve been impressed with her approach and questioning.

The feeling that you’re left with, as she fights her corner, is that she’s there to represent the people of the Island, not other interests.

Her view is that if you’re a councillor, you’ve got to speak your mind, in her words “You’ve got to know your own mind, as if you don’t, you become a puppy dog.”

Let’s hope that Cllr Miller enjoys the new direction her life is taking and that another, potentially new, councillor takes up her crown.

What a shame to lose Cllr Miller. I have a great deal of respect for her and the way that she has represented Islanders over the years.

Although not in her constituency, I had dealings with Muriel on a couple of matters, and found her to be very caring, ready to fight for the community against the anonymous face of authority.

County Hall will be the worse for her departure.

    Sad to see her go.
I think she’s the last non-tory in a cabinet or committee chair role at county hall isn’t she?
