The news all Island bands and DJs have been waiting for has finally arrived.

Bestival Island Band and DJ Competition AnnouncedRob Da Bank has today announced that Island bands and DJs are once again being given the chance to play alongside the likes of Kraftwerk, Massive Attack and the yet to be announced Sunday headliner at Bestival 2009 taking place in September at Robin Hill Country Park.

Here at VentnorBlog, we get begging emails in our inbox on a regular basis asking when the competition is starting, so for all of you who’ve written to us (and the rest of you) here’s the skinny.

The final battle will take place at Ryde Theatre on Thursday 21st May and for a chance to follow in the footsteps of The Shanklin Freak Show, Hugo Frusslinky or now signed to Sunday Best, Bastila you’ll have to send Rob da Bank an mp3 file of your best track (if you’re a band) or a link to your best 20min mix if you’re a DJ.

Download the official entry form that can be downloaded now from the Bestival Website

Looks like there won’t be any voting through the County Press this year, as Rob will select finalists in both band & DJ categories.

The winning band will open the festival on the main stage on Friday 11 September 2009.

The winning DJ will play an exclusive set at the ultra-cool Hidden Disco on the Bestival site.

Closing date for all Bestival 2009 Island Bands & DJs Competition entries is Friday 24th April.

Bestival tells us that “As befits such an open-minded jamboree of fun, no form of music is off-limits and originality is to be positively encouraged.”
