An event celebrating the life and work of Anthony Minghella will be held on the Isle of Wight over the weekend of March 13th to 15th marking the first anniversary of his death.

Minghella Movie MarathonThe Minghella Movie Marathon, organised by his family, the Island’s Young Chamber and the British Film Institute, will screen seven of his films with talks by people who worked with him, such as Alan Rickman, at some of the shows.

A gala reception on Saturday, 14th March offers the chance to mingle with some of the stars from his films and the crew who worked closely with Anthony throughout his distinguished career.

The evening will include a special presentation of The English Patient, his film acknowledged with 12 academy nominations, nine Oscars, and 6 BAFTAs.

The organisers have announced the release of a limited number of ‘Stardust tickets’ which will guarantee a ticket for the gala night and priority booking for all the movies being shown over the weekend.

The tickets cost £50 and the offer is open to the first 250 callers, and will end at 12 noon on Tuesday, 24 February.

The nearby Medina High School has been heavily involved in the creation of the event supporting Anthony’s belief and example that with ambition and determination, anything can be achieved.

The event will also raise funds to support charities for local young people.

Gioia Minghella, Anthony’s sister, said:

“Anthony was proud of his island roots and we want to remember him in the best way possible, by celebrating his work and supporting people less fortunate. We hope a number of his close friends who appeared in his films, will be with us. And we hope the industry, his fans and the island will join us in celebrating his extraordinary artistic achievements.”

The £50 Stardust tickets can be purchased from the Medina box office by telephoning 01983 527020 or by visiting the box office from 10am to 8pm on weekdays, and 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays.

Each ticket guarantees a place at the exclusive gala evening. Stardust ticket buyers must also book the films they wish to see at the time of booking. Films showing are:

Friday 13th March – Cineworld Newport, IoW

Saturday 14th March – Medina Theatre, Newport, IoW
The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency
The Talented Mr. Ripley
The English Patient

Sunday 15th March – Medina Theatre, Newport, IoW
