The Taverners, Godshill: Roger Serjent Gets Top Marks Once Again
Sunday, 8th February, 2009 at 7:38 pm, Isle of Wight
Just got back from a lovely afternoon spent in The Taverners Pub in Godshill.
Having earlier been in the Yarbridge Inn in Brading longer than expected (thanks to Tony for the stimulating conversation) we arrived at The Taverners just as the kitchen was closing.
Disappointed from missing out the week before due to the power cut and having our hearts set the great food of Roger Serjent, we asked again if there was any possibility of some food, any food.
The lovely lady behind the bar popped into the kitchen to ask very nicely on our behalf and within minutes our order was taken and there was no need to search further afield for the much needed roast dinner.
Perfectly succulent roast pork with fabulously fresh Island veg for main and the most amazing apple crumble, bursting with cloves and topped off with a vanilla and egg custard did the trick.
A few card games later and it was time to brave the wet and windy weather. It’s not the first time we’ve eaten at The Taverners and certainly won’t be the last.
Highly recommended whether you’re after good quality food at affordable prices or just looking for somewhere cosy and friendly to meet friends for a drink.

Ditto, fantastic food and great service. Always a winner! Yes, there is more to Godshill than tea rooms.

WOW we’ve lived in Godshill for 6 years and have eaten at the Taverners plenty of times but what a difference since Roger took over. The food is amazing and the service is second to none, we couldn’t believe that this was the same pub that we had been to so many times before. It is now cosy and welcoming and just what a proper english village pub should be like. Fabulous!!

I agree whole heartedly – at last, a gastro pub on the island – it only took 25 years!
Let’s hope Roger will make all the ‘freezer to microwave’ outfits look the nasty, dated, rip-off joints that they are.
