‘The Majority’ Win Isle of Wight Festival Band Comp

'The Majority' Win Isle of Wight Festival Band PlaceWell done to band members Theo Wiley, Matt East, Louis Fitton and Charlie King – all 12 years old – who make up The Majority.

Last night they won the Isle of Wight Festival annual Battle of the Bands contest held at Harrodian School, Barnes, London.

Promoter of the event John Giddings was clearly impressed, “It was a tough decision as the bands were at a high standard but I had to choose between The Majority and The Other Guys and for me The Majority had something special. They were four years younger than The Other Guys and I made my decision on their song writing and stage presence.”

The Majority will play on the acoustic bandstand, joining The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Pendulum and The Ting Tings, 12th – 14th June at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight.

Yes, we found quite a few bands called ‘The Majority’ when researching this.

BTW – I don’t think the winners were from the Island, but will play here.

hah – i misunderstood – i wondered why island groups would travel to a posh private school on the mainland for a `sing-off`.

    good luck to them anyway.

maybe there could be a centralised database where people could check whether there’s another group already singing under a name they want to adopt.

i don’t know whether that’s feasible on a worldwide basis.

i know equity (the uk performing arts union) requires would-be duplicates to adopt a different `stage` name.

dont get me wrong, fair play to the lads for winning the competition. but surely there is enough talent in the schools on the island for them to find a bunch of local nippers to play.

Do any of Giddens children go that school perhaps?

@Buffon – This was the national comp -I understand that – as always – there will also be a local comp, giving Island bands the chance to win a slot at the festival too. There is the live wired comp and well as the battle of the bands comp, so plenty of chance for Island talent to shine in front of the judges.
